2026 Trip Reports
Tessa's Trail Hike
February 1, 2026, Roam went to Port Gamble Heritage Park for some light hiking. This was a smaller trip and there was a bit of rain, but only just enough to refresh us and we had a great time!
Bellingham Bingo
The Bellingham Bingo was a great success! The weather was beautiful, and the first day consisted of a nice hike to Fragrance Lake followed by hanging out at the campground and heading down to the beach to watch the sunset. There was some miscommunication between park rangers, so we did not end up doing any trail service. (We still got the group campsite for free!) The second day we drove into Bellingham’s downtown area and did the bingo, finishing it around 12:45. After this, we had lunch downtown on camping chairs on the sidewalk, which was a new experience for most. The drive home was smooth, and everyone slept (except for the drivers.)
Rouge River Rafting
Over spring break, a group of rafters journeyed to the Rogue River in Oregon, observing the beauty that this Wild and Scenic river has to offer! While this trip was originally planned for the Owyhee river, low water levels forced a change of plans, and it was still a success! The boats oared through rain and shine, covering over 40 miles of pristine river wilderness, with fun and challenging rapids spread throughout the trip!
Mailbox Peak
On June 6th, the ROAM crew set out to conquer Mailbox Peak in slight snow and rain. The team pushed steadily up the mountain, navigating the switchbacks and the slick boulder field before clearing the notorious false summits. At the peak, enveloped in a thick cloud, we celebrated our success with treats provided by the leaders while witnessing a moment of mountain wonder as the snow fell. We celebrated our success with some treats and witnessed the beauty of nature as it started snowing at the summit, providing a moment of wonder. In an attempt not to freeze, we started our descent quickly. To stay warm, we executed a swift descent, making it back to the cars just as the snow turned into a valley downpour. Kinney Point
ROAM’s kayaking discipline went on an inspiring 3 day trip to Kinney Point State Park. This is our second year doing this incredible trip. It was nice and sunny each day, and we saw otters, seals, eagles and other birds, porpoises, and deer! We also went to East Beach County Park on Marrowstone island, which was just beautiful, and exploring the tide pools was very fun. We also invented Yotella (a blend of yogurt and Nutella with crushed Oreos mixed in)! Everyone should try it. We are definitely going to be returning next year!
North Lake Washington Biking
ROAM took to two wheels for an energetic 27-mile bike ride starting from Matthews Beach Park. Cruising at a steady pace, the group enjoyed scenic lakeside views, braved a minor fall and a quick tire repair along the trail and road, and refueled with lunch at Marina Park. After 1,099 feet of elevation gain and plenty of trail fun, everyone made it back safe and energized! A fantastic, free day on the trail! We are looking forward to more bike trips in the future!
San Juans Kayaking
ROAM’s kayaking discipline embarked on a glorious, 7-day trip to the San Juans! Each day was filled with new and exciting adventures on all sorts of different islands. We braved perilous paddles through wild windstorms and even got the chance to go on a hike on our rest day. We had foggy mornings and sunny afternoons, and there was plenty of wildlife to see including seals, porpoises, sea stars, and sleepy seaslaters!
